I think it's ok. There is vacuum, so the pipes are ok. There's just no suction as I would have expected (a lot of the other vacuum pipes on the car suck quite hard).

I've now tested the auxilliary air valve by pinching the pipe going to it whilst at normal operating temperture (as stated in the Haynes manual). As the revs do not go down it looks like this might be the problem.
I would have thought the pipe should be pinched when cold ?? Perhaps the Haynes manual is wrong ?
