I'm glad the hood thing worked for you, I introduced that same squeak into my car after a couple of months of ownership in the process of tightening things and straightening things out. Too tight and it made the sound. A little readjustment of the latch, some synthetic grease and adjustment of the bump stops and it went away. I agree though with you saying that it sounded as if it was coming from behind the dash... which technically it was.
