i like the color. the monsters are sweet bikes. air cooled is nice: simplicity. it is a solid motor in that bike.

two caveats: given the age of the bike and its miles, i doubt the timing belts have been changed and should be done, regardless of the miles. same issue as the 944 and age of the belts. it can be done in your garage by you, although most owners wouldn't dream of it, again, like the 944 and the mysticism and voodoo involved. second caveat is the carburetors: i don't know that i'll ever own another carburetor bike again; my old triumph left a very bad taste in my mouth in that regard. that said, the new stuff is MUCH better, of course, and, when i changed the carbs to some new mikuni's, most of my carburetor problems went away.

so, the upshot is, i like the bike a lot. i'd get over my phobia of carbs and buy the thing. the belts need changing IMO, ASAP, as i think that is a time bomb. you might want to have the dealer do it the first time to make sure its all good, as sometimes the valve keepers can crack, although i doubt that particular example has seen any abuse. the little fly-screen is a plus IMO, as it will push a lot of the air over you, like a windscreen would. Leeh's post says that he thinks that a float may be sticking, i'd get that sorted ASAP, also.

that size of monster will lend itself to easy learning/riding because it is smallish and light. yet, it will have plenty of go and plenty of whoah.

Ya, the offer I made Lee was taking the service into account. I think I will DIY it, doesn't look as complicated as a 944. Just go slow and triple check everything. I was planning on pulling the carb apart and go through everything. Again, not that much Voodoo. He is going to try selling it locally for a bit and see if he gets any bites, as it will be a few weeks before I could sneak out there to take possession of it anyways. So right now its a waiting game. I feel like at what I offered I can fix it and still not be upside down in it if I want to flip it come spring time. I've never been into the monsters, but I fell in love with that one. We'll see what happens. I really wasn't looking to buy anything for a few more months truthfully.
