The 911 doesn't have anything on the 944, or 928. Maybe a 935, but as far as 80's 911's go, I'd opt for a 928 every time. I was at another shop once, and this 935 owner told me he had always thought of the 928 as an old grandpa Porsche.
I said, "I'll take that from you, but only a 935 owner can say that to me."
The 944/951 will outhandle both the 911 and 928, but it doesn't have the refinement of the 928. The 928 is not far behind on handling and I'm willing to trade a little bit of handling for the refinement and power of the 928. The 911 of the 1980's was just old technology with more displacement. I love my 911 too, but it represents the best of technology from that era. I think the 928 represents the best of Porsche technology for the 1980's. I mean, other than a 959 or a 935, but who can afford that? Not me.
