Not buyin it.
Peanuts will provide shock protection but would have done nothing to prevent that compressive damage.
And if it were possible to reinforce the package to survive that type of mishap maybe the shipper should manufacture
their branded packaging that they charge for to survive
their system. Especially when damage claims are in part dependent on wether you used their packaging or your own.
