No, not ironic. I could see how you could read it that way.
I just tend to be wary of cars from that part of the country. Likely everywhere the rustproofing was sprayed, the car is fine. It's just that Ziebart didn't typically do a great job on Porsches, so there might be some areas they missed. The luck comes in where those areas are not corroded. And there's always luck involved buying a car you were unable to see in person.
I do like 912Es, and it's a good color.
And yes, having had my first Porsche purchase (in 1971) be a rusty wreck, my eyeballs are calibrated to find potential issues.
