I sure did. Expensive, expensive, expensive. Not hard to write a car off not to mention buying yourself a few days off mending if it gets bad. I know, that can happen at any time anywhere, but guess what? I seldom ran the track or the canyons on a big run that someone didn't go home on a trailer or flatbed. I could not afford that than and certainly can't afford that now.
I got out of Porsches with the exception of the wife's Boxster, a very worthy car if I need to get my rocks off. Which I don't, so it sits with 58,000 on the clock still on the factory brakes.
Sounds to me like you're looking for a different kind of car experience. One that you can get a lot of enjoyment out of cruising the streets and hitting the shows. There's a huge hot rod community out there. I've walked both sides of the street more than once. Now, I do the rod shows and still have as much fun as I did years ago.
But, I haven't found the ultimate Zekemobile yet. Sounds like you are closer than I to finding yours.

Zeke... You are correct. Expensive, Expensive, Expensive. I crack the 911 up I've got problems. Smart money says buy a used Cayman S, but I lose the vintage thing. This is something that is important to me.
Hotrods I love, still vintage with lots of hands on work. Would definitely drive it all over. Just not on the twisties like I like. Then again my other cars are BMWs(plus as long as the top goes down, I think the wife would drive a Porsche. Manual trans, not as a sales person). Like I said just thinking out loud. I really want to get this right. I love the 911, but hotrods make me excited too.
