thanks, guys. when i mentioned the fridge and stuff, that was just an example. you can replace the fridge with the oven and the same thing happens. basically, any time three of the large appliances are on, it will trip.
it is good to know that repeated use will make the breaker more sensitive. i am pretty sure i can replace that myself. there is a main power switch, i'll switch it off, test the circuit for load, and replace the thing with a high quality piece. honestly, this only started happening last summer, and infrequently. this summer, it is all the time. very annoying.
with the old wiring in this house, i'd be afraid to put a 200A fuse in there, even by an electrician. i suppose that all the circuits are on their own breakers and the main is closest to the source, so maybe it isn't a big deal. i wouldn't do that job myself. no way.
