Pricing Advice for Long time dreamer, First time buyer

I'm negotiating the purchase of an 88 Guards Red on Black coupe currently and could use some pricing advice.

The car has 174k miles, does not smoke or leak, and has been maintained by a mechanic I've known for years, but I am still slightly put off by the miles. Are these cars pretty solid at high mileage? I do own an '86 325E with 299k miles that has been a great car. Cost

The car also looks to have had some repair work done on the left front (looks like the hood and left fender were replaced), but the carfax is clean and the car looks straight underneath. Cosmetically it is very clean and I'd give it a solid 8.5

Original asking price from the buyer was $22k and I am hoping for 20k, but we haven't finished talking yet. I'd love for someone to tell me if I'm on the right path, or overpaying.

Thank you in advance!
