If you were listening, I never said anything about better, nor did I say that another Porsche couldn't beat my "garbage" Mustang. I stated the fact that here was this guy that personified the Porsche driver to the T, in a Convert. 911 TURBO Porsche and again, my GARBAGE Mustang ripped him in the straights (that's above 50 for your info) and in the corners.
I have three things to tell you:
Of which I have many things to tell you too:
1st of, never decide anything by racing ONE guy, on the street.
I decided that I was too fast to judge the high end racing breed engine of the Porsche with one race, so I called out to my friend that has a Porsche (911 Turbo hardtop). He lives local to me and knew of a place that had no traffic where they are building a new community near my house. Last night was the deciding factor to whether I was going to be a Porsche owner or not (till I can afford a newer Porsche, maybe a twin turbo would be fast). He owns a performance shop and has been racing at Moroso, Sunshine speedway and other tracks,(and on the streets) on the straights and 10 turn since he was 18 and he is now in his early 30's(I can hear it already, he doesn't know how to drive a Porsche the "right" way). A little more FYI, he has a 2001 Cobra that runs low 8's in the quarter with a 4.6 liter and 5 speed, so I trust his driving more then I trust mine. I have to admit, when he was warming the car up and I heard the engine, my knees were knocking!! I was afraid I spoke on this post too soon and I was going to be SPANKED by this thing and have to eat my words. To my surprise, from the start of the race, my car was pulling on his. Now I have to admit, I just got new slotted rotors, 5 point harness (that kept me in the seat a little better), AVS Inter. tires and a new suspension (shocks, struts and springs). At the end of the race, which was about 10 laps through the entire community, I was ahead by a large gap. I was pissed, I almost wanted him to beat me to give me a reason to get a Porsche! To race him and beat him wasn't enough though. I took the Porsche this time and he took my car for the next test (FYI, we did not race against each other as I was too afraid of smashing his car). Please, again, I am not putting down the Porsche, nor am I trying to stir up a fight over the history of the car. My car outhandled the Porsche, was easier to correct a goof up and my engine gave a better indication of what was going on. I admit, the Porsche drove like it was on a track and had a great sound, but I enjoyed the tone of my car better.
The car might not have been a turbo (do you know how a turbo sounds? the regular 911's wail will surprise you), there might've been something wrong with it. There's something called turbo lag...
I was hoping you would say that! Yes, I do know what Turbo lag is, as I have had a few turbo cars(300ZX twin turbo, Mustang Turbo, and to round it off, a Thunderbird turbo coupe). The car that was on the highway that I raced was a turbo, without a doubt. It had all of the badging and the high pitched spool that could not be mistaken.
Also you don't know he could drive it the way you're supposed to, to extract power from it, or make it go fast around a corner. (THAT is one of the main reasons why a Porsche is so rewarding to drive).
I am not a professional driver and as ANYONE can tell you, the Mustang is not a easy car to drive. The car loves to fishtail and you can bald a set of tires within a few hours, so if a guy that was ready and able to race could not keep up against a fairly stock AUTOMATIC mustang..........you do the math!
2nd, There's more to a car than simply how fast you can go when you "punch" it.
I am perfectly aware of the fact that looks take a big part in the vehicle as well. But, picture a Hummer, this huge vehicle that has more GPS equip then most armies carry and all that metal, and it can't climb a 20 degree hill......
I have NO doubt a 911 turbo that's in good shape can spank your mustang. Hell, even I can spank your mustang at an auto-x with my "dinky" little 944 NA, it's exactly half the size of your engine... Yet I beat mustangs daily at speeds above 50-55. They have NO top end.
I would thoroughly enjoy putting my car against your 944. I would also enjoy it if you beat me so I could see the point in purchasing a Porsche. Since you most likely don't live near me and most likely just have a bunch of talk, I guess we will never know. If anyone could have spanked my car, it would have been my friend. As a matter of fact, I welcome anyone in the South Florida area, with a Stockish 944 or 911 (older model) to step up to the plate.
3rd, because of reasons like the lack of feed-back, build quality, and good handling, "I" think a Mustang is a complete piece of garbage.
If this was remotely close to being the truth, I would be dead! I have been in about 5 accidents and have yet to be hurt. One of which a crane had to pick the car up to get it on the flat bed when I was caught in the middle of a 8 car pile up! So, if you are going to make a point, make a valid one please! I have also flipped a slant nose convertible Porsche so I know that they are safe as well, but don't say that a car is unsafe if you have no idea! Oh, and the 302 motor that you are putting down has a racing history to it as well!
This is purely objectional, I'm sure you can make a good point by arguing how cheaply you got it, and that it can go 0-60 faster than any other car at it's price range, however you forget that a proper "sports" car can also turn and stop well too. And THAT is why the 5.0 is NOT a good sports car.
To set your mind at ease, my car obviously outstopped, outcornered and out powered the POrsche Turbo TWO TIMES!! One time with a driver that will outdrive any of us at any time!
Moving UP to a Porsche will cost more $$$, and it doesn't seem to be a car that'll suit you well. So keep the $$$, and the car!
I understand that it will cost more, but I am trying to find something more to the car then its' pissing power. Yeah, it is great to be asked what kind of car yo have and to be able to say, "A Porsche", but if the thing doesn't perform, who cares!! I had a black Mustang several years ago and had the opportunity to get up against a Diablo in a back road at a light. It was a straight away, as I know I could never beat or match or even come close to that car with ANY $12,000 car like mine! That car took off so damn fast and had such a sweet engine sound I couldn't stop grinning the whole week. To even be beat by him was a pleasure.
Well Ahmet, I hope you understand that my intent was not to piss you off or to simply outstage your car, but to tell a story of what happened! It is a truthful story and maybe I will see the purpose for purchasing one in the future, or I will just keep saving for a Ferrari or Lambo. Who knows.........
Thank you all again for all of your info and support. See you on the road someday.
