I just got an email from a person who posts here, I will withhold his name and signin, but this was a great email. I feel the same way as you do, but, again, I don't understand the reasoning behind the Chevy not liking the Ford guy and the Porsche guy not liking the TVR owner, etc... In the end we are all auto enthusiasts and should act like it. I have owned so many different cars over my short existance, from a twin Turbo 300 ZX (built by the Nissan racing team and sold to me) to a Expedition with two Jags, a continental, and even a Firebird inbetween! I loved them all, well, except the Continental, long story. Everyone have a great day and happy motoring! I hope to see you all someday ont eh road and I will be the one with the evil grin trying to get you to go at it on I95 in South Florida! I bid you all a good night a fair weekend!
Thank you for your email and being honest!
Hey man,
Unfortunately you wound up in a Bull**** throwing contest on Pelican parts. Not all of us that own 944's are *******s that are trying to make something out of nothing. Generally, everyone that posted replies to your post are about 16-21 years old, and they know everything (HA HA HA!), or think they do any way. So don't take what they say seriously.
I know where you are coming from, I used to have a "68 chevelle with a .040 over 454, tunnel ram, built to hell turbo 400, and a 12 bolt posi with 4.56 gears. Don't get me wrong, I love my 944, it is non turbo, and I can keep up with a Mustang in the turns, I've done it. But I would NEVER have a chance off the line, I only have 150 cubic inches. But the reason I love this car is, it gets 30mpg- the Chevelle got 6mpg, it looks great- the Chevelle just doesn't have those kind of body lines, and most of all, I don't have to open the hood, it is bullet proof. I just don't have the time to fool with HotRods anymore. My neighbor has a restored 70 Z-28, and every once in a while we go for a joy ride in it, and I love it. There's NOTHING like getting pinned in the seat by boatloads of torque to make your day, and put a smile on your face. You said that a mechanic said it would cost $3000 to replace the belts, he was going to screw you hard! I had mine done with ALL of the rollers, tensioners, belts, and an intake boot done for $350. Not bad if you take into consideration that the tool to do the tension on the belts is $500, and it takes about 3 hours to do it.
Like I said we aren't all *******s, and not everyone that drives a Mustang is a 16 year old accident waiting to happen.
A 944 is never going to do what you want it to, it was never designed to. It will cruise at 130 all day long with no problems, but it won't beat a garbage truck off the line. Matter of fact, hardly ANY european car will do what you want. They go for top end, for hours, not the stoplight Grand Prix. You said you were looking into a Countach? Man you want to talk about expensive maintainence!
Any way, keep your 'stang, and call Jack Rousch. I'm sure he will find a way to make it run like a S.O.B. As for me, I'll keep my 944 and not try to push it to do things that it won't. That's the difference between me, and the "idiots" on pelican parts, I have driven HEALTHY American iron and love them too.
Next time you see a 944, look real close it might be me. I'll be the one giving you the "thumbs up"!
Take Care,
