I've helped the Governor of Florida pick a few games out for his son (Bob Graham). Being a 12 year old, I had no idea of who he was until he thanked me and gave me a business card.

My family has had close calls with fame and fortune...

Grandpa Jack was approached by his buddy Sam in the early 20s about these newfangled moving picture things. Gramps wasn't sure and wasn't gonna bet the grocery money on it, so Sam Goldwyn found a different partner to form MGM with.

Grandpa Jack's wife was the secretary to the GM for the '32 Olympics - my mom and uncle both have a set of medals from those games, and Coke bought a ton of her personal footage to possibly use for commercials when the '84 games were back in LA (they didn't use it...) ... one of her best friends got a modeling contract and posed for the painting that became the "Columbia Lady" for Columbia motion pictures.

How about some more Olympic stuff? A cousin was in the trials to compete for the year we boycotted the Russian games. When I worked at a local hospital, one the guys in my department was a diver for the Belgian Olympic team. Here at the college, our former TV studio manager was the coach for the US Fencing team. One of our instructors got a medal in a long distance running event for Jamaica.

When I was learning to program at an after school program in the early 80s one of my classmates - Craig Silverstein - was a few seats down. He applied himself in high school (I smoked dope and chased girls) and went to college at Stanford, and was approached about forming a company. He denied, and opted to become the first employee instead. The company? Google.

My wife used to help Andrew Copeland (Sister Hazel) with his homework, and I've gotten fishing advice from Tom Petty's father.
