Getting rid of pickup truck and using car/trailer combo. Am I going to be miserable?

I have tried to go without a pickup truck over the years. And I hate it. I do a lot of my own work, and its so nice to simply hit the lumber yard, stone yard, dump, etc....and not have to think about it.

I don't mind driving around a truck, but the fact is it gulps gas, and often times I could get away with using a sturdy roof rack on a car. It would also be nice to have a proper car to haul my daughter and her friends around. I'm keeping my 997, but the kids are getting way too big for that, and many moms are none too hot on having you haul their 'snowflake' around in a P-car.

So I was thinking of getting rid of my truck and getting a W210 4matic Mercedes wagon with a trailer hitch, and getting a trailer that can haul 4x8 sheeting. I can use the car day to day, and when I need it, pull the trailer out.

Any thoughts on this? Has anyone else went the trailer route?

My truck is a 2000 F-150 XL king cab. Very basic. Vinyl bench seats, rubber floors....its a work truck. The other option is that I get a newer F-150 Super Crew 4 door.
