Audi starter that will fit it do rotate the other way. A friend of mine rebuilds starters and we looked in all his books and the 944 starter number wasn't used on any other car at all, just the 944. He told me that over half of the starters brought in to him to rebuild were fine. Bad battery, bad connection, etc was the problem. Take the battery to a auto parts store like Advance or one that will check batteries for you and check your cables and connections before you buy a starter. If it is the starter, take it to a shop u know and let them rebuild it, much cheaper than buying one.
