Love it! My parents had a 65 mustang 298 4sp when I learned to drive. Pretty fun car. Not a fastback however!
Since you are going to rework the engine, there are real reasons why a turbo makes a lot of sense on a V8. My BIL drag races a 5 liter fox body. It brings the boost on in a nice linear way and if you stay off the gas, it is very streetable.
Just a thought.
