I think it was an accident.

I have seen other videos on the net that were done on purpose. Like the kid that put lighter fluid or something on his stomach/chest (cloths, not directly on the skin) and then lit it on fire. The fire may not have initially burnt his torso, but the flames that were a foot tall that got his neck, chin and face sure seemed to be a big surprise.
