This is the F-104 variant, the rocket-assisted NF-104, that is depicted toward the end of the 1983 movie "The Right Stuff" where Yeager tries to break the absolute altitude record and loses control at over 100,000 feet. In the movie they call it the model with "the big engine" but it was actually the rocket-assist.
