Being a hater is ingrained in certain cultures and groups of people. I grew up in Minnesota, which is a great place in certain ways, but it has a deeply ingrained Scandinavian ethic that absolutely hates any display of wealth or success. It's ok to be slightly upper middle class, but that's about it. Anything that could be considered bragging in any way, including expensive cars, is really frowned upon by a lot of people.
My BIL, a successful cardiologist who could own any car on earth, buys only Volvos/Toyotas/Chevys and the like, and he has a deep hatred for BMW owners that dates back to his college days and some stereotype about rich frat boys or something. I schit you not.
I don't like ostentatious idiots but I absolutely despise the hater mentality. Ironically, IMO, one group completely devoid of this mentality is poor people in the ghetto or 'hood. I've driven many a high-dollar car through the hood and gotten nothing but smiles and "thumbs up" type of greetings. They absolutely love expensive cars. Weird, huh?
