F1 racing is too complicated for most average Joe's to understand and enjoy. I don't mean that in a condescending way, it just the nature of the beast and what it has evolved into.

F1 is basically a technology and politcal war within a very retricted set of rules so some of the performance features that make one car faster than another are completely lost to the viewers and even some of the other teams too. The level of detail involved in every aspect of designing, building and running of 2 cars is insane and has more in common with a Nasa space launch than any other form of wheeled motorsport.

The tools, analysis, methods, computing power, software etc available today in F1 makes 10yrs ago look like the dark ages. Where it will be in another years time is anyones guess.

The rule makers and teams do a lot of work together behind the scenes to try and make the show better but the whole thing has got so complicated it is very hard to make any meaningful high visibility changes.

A tyre war would just create more problems than it would solve and more than likely create a one horse race led by which ever team had the most influence with the best tyre manufacturer.

Making the cars unlimited no rules would again make it a one horse race until the top teams had all diverged to a single car concept package or become bankrupt trying. This would never happen as every track would need to be rebuilt to safely accommodate faster cars.

Rule stability is by far the most economical and longterm choice as the difference between each car would be eroded to very little over time which would create ever closer racing with drivers making the difference. Only so many ways to reinvent the wheel. Again this doesn't fit in the whole world leading technology marketing image the car and engine makers want from F1.

Introducing new technology or should I say improved technology as over the years its all been done before and there is nothing new out there is probably the only viable way left to try and create some parity without turning it into a one make series.
