Rest in Peace, Bill...and "thanks"
I bought my 1985 928s just under a year ago from the gentleman who founded the company I work for. He (his name was Bill) and a business partner started the company some 30 years ago and it had grown to 450 people when I joined some 10 years ago. We were acquired by a French corporation back in 2005 and now form part of a 120,000-strong technology giant. Bill bought this car from the original owner back in 1990.
I learned just today that Bill, a fellow Porsche enthusiast, had passed away after a lengthy illness. Although he is no longer here to enjoy his cars, this one will live on with me; I am now even more determined to have it on the road by next Spring and to keep it for as long as I possibly can.
To some, cars are just an appliance, like a fridge. To me, though, [some] cars represent a place in time and are an extension of the people who own them. The 928 is truly unique and we are preserving a piece of automotive history by keeping them alive, whilst keeping the memories of their owners alive as well.
Thanks for everything Bill. Rest in peace.
