Beyond that, the meaning of the song is very deep:
Some Aboriginal tribes have only 44 chromosomes (42 and 2 for gender - XX/XY) and their consciousness is said to be connected as "one", as all cells, organisms, and life is "one" and from one energy (most Native Americans believe the same). We have 46 chromosomes, 44 and 2, and we are supposedly a disharmonic stepping stone in evolution where we recognize ourselves as individuals. It is thought that the next evolution will be 46 and 2, where our consciousness is beyond one (44), beyond our recognition of the individual (46), and ion to a consciousness of a higher power (48).
The people who are into this stuff believed some change in the energy of the universe about 25 years ago allowed us to evolve to 46 and 2.
