FS: Strong 3 Liter Motor

This was a stock 1979 3.0 liter motor with 90K on it when the top end was re-done in 2010, just before I bought it.

What was done to it then:

964+ cams from Elgin (makes a big difference)
Big port CIS and heads
Top end was re-done with all new valves, guides, seals, valve job, etc

So, it's not quite stock, but I'd characterize it as a mild race motor. It was built with longevity in mind, and that has definitely been the case. It is really strong.

Since I bought it in late 2010, it has been lovingly maintained by a professional Porsche mechanic. New oil after every event, and lots of TLC. We set redline very conservatively at 6200rpm, so it has led a charmed life. Since I have had it, I'd say I have put something in the neighborhood of 30-40 hours on it, so it should still be pretty fresh.

I had it dynoed in the Fall of 2012, and it was making 176hp (adjusted for sea level) at the wheels.

The car was very competitive with that motor in it, winning several RMVR races, typically being one of the fastest cars at local DEs, and putting down great lap times everywhere. It would still be in there if I hadn't had to change due to PPIHC rules.

Happy to answer any questions on it, and connect you with the mechanic who has cared for it. Offered at a very reasonable $8K, plus shipping to you from Colorado Springs. This would make a great street, track, or race motor.

Hear it run in this video, or this one.
