Good feedback. And yes, I have been doing some reading over at IH8MUD.
Sounds like the 100's are very well respected also. The few comments that they are not QUITE as good off-road kind of made me think about what I was really looking for in a vehicle. The reality is that I would probably see very little off-roading, and virtually no "hard-core" stuff. We go to Colorado several times a year and always hit the back-country with dirt-bikes, hiking, fly-fishing, etc..., but let's face it, I don't need a rock-crawler!!
That said, I think I am just at a place where I appreciate the "capability", and the engineering of a vehicle that is truly built to last in harsh conditions. I am the kind of guy that likes to buy the best, since those types of vehicles also usually do the day-to-day stuff better than 90% of everything else out there. I also appreciate good design when it comes time to work on stuff. My 911 falls in that category, as does my KTM dirt bike.
We have (my wife drives) a 2011 4 Runner. I love it, and could just inherit that and get her something different. I currently drive an '03 Expedition, and honestly, it has been fantastic. I does everything well, has great power, and is VERY comfortable. I honestly have no need whatsoever for a new SUV, I guess I just got bored and started romanticizing about a cool, older, bullet-proof cruiser that would be "fun" to own....if that makes any sense at all. Forget the practical here....I don't need practical. For that matter, I am the kind of guy that would buy a highly modded expo built rig, if it was done right, just for the enjoyment of driving it.
Keep the comments coming, and I'll keep looking. I'll post up some pics of stuff I like. Probably be purely stock stuff....all the way to crazy modded stuff. You guys post up some good ones to, and we can discuss.
Thanks,
JA
