I alternate between the 911 ('88) and my '76 BMW. My commute is fairly short (5mi) and is barely enough to get the Porsche up to temp, so I tend to rely more on the BMW; in fact, I tend to take a longer route when I drive the Porsche. Both chariots are amazingly reliable.
In terms of reliability and adding miles I wouldn't hesitate using the 911. I would avoid using it for really short errands, though.
