You are wrongly assuming that the motors used in the Diesel pickups are light duty engines... They aren't. For example, both the 5.9 cummins and the Powerstroke are used in 2ton trucks. They aren't anywhere near the same as the little 1.8L VW and Merc diesels. A 3/4ton or 1ton is not a light duty vehicle IMHO.
