One thing I notice is how most recommend AAA. I had never even considered it. How is that different than towing on my current plan? I mean both are gonna get the car to a gas station. AAA isn't gonna tow it back to virginia or something is it? Are there other benefits? Just curious.

If you have a regular
AAA card, the tow truck would take the disabled vehicle to a nearby service station. But with
AAA plus, you have the option to have the car towed to a shop of your choice within 100 miles
FREE. In excess of 100 miles you pay the extra mileage accordingly. If you don't have the AAA plus membership, my advise is to upgrade it before the trip. Enjoy the drive.
