When have I spoken out against the Bible - I believe I entered the religious threads once (and it certainly wasn't to speak out against the Bible), never to return, it was so nauseating, but I also felt that sticking to the next part of Matthew - 6:5-8 is important too.
Rather than fostering a lie, a quote where I spoke out against the Bible I believe is in order sammy, it should be easy to find, since I have done it 'so many times'.
I agree with POP - charity is best done at a very personal level, but, in a large urban society, often that is impossible. Take the food stamp program - bloated at 75 billion, certainly, with better programs and more 'self help', maybe that could be cut by 4/5ths to 15 billion.
To give a scope of how hard it is to raise that kind of money in the private sector. The Sandy Telethon (one of the most successful recent telethons) raised 23 million dollars. We would have to have almost 2 of those telethons every day just to feed those who were truly needy, just to get to that 1/5 number of what we give out in food stamps currently.
