Sure, just run a script that either updates one of the dynamic DNS service providers with the boxes current IP or a script that grabs current IP and emails/texts/messages you.
If he is working for an IP then he has access to geolocation that will get him an address.
Consumers can do it as well but you'll pay for the info.
Given his job he may have had an automagic VPN connection set up as well and just waited for the box to log in.
