It seems only a decade ago restoring a classic or considered rare road bike was routine. Now for the rarest road bikes leaving rust, paint chips and scratches are worth far more. There's a fellow near me with some incredible late 40's and 50's classic racers, most repainted and restored. Gorgeous machines. He's always listing them but rarely see any takers. On occasion I'll see another's listing and sale for more money- same era, components, but in worse to average condition.

Thanks, like cars (and other bikes) many of these get "over restored" and while I will clean her up, may have the bar & forks powder coated to the correct finish (the spray bomb job sucks, but back then, we all did it, most with the same results

) bike are only original once, and I like survivors, I have a few including a 1976 Red-Line Squareback, that like this, is the same as she was in the 70s, but I have restored too, and shown, but for more, survivors are real, as a lot of bikes are so over restored that were never that nice when they were brand new.. What is interesting about mine is it was bought in 74, his Mother was there when I picked it up and confirmed.
While the Dan -Gurney Mono-Shock represents the 1st of their BMX products, this one represents the last

Dan Gurney (1975 - 1976)
Dan Gurney BMX bikes were produced by a company called All American BMX. the company was only in business for about a year and a half. from 1975 into 1976. I say this because all of the Gurneys you have listed are shown as '78 or '79. All american BMX was already out of business by then. Mike Devitt of SE fame was one of the people behind the scenes at Gurney. Scot Breithaupt also of SE fame was a factory rider for Gurney and worked for the company.
All Gurney models were called Eagles, there were three basic models
The Dan Gurney Monoshock Eagle. (there were 3 generations of this frame)
The Dan Gurney Hardtail Eagle.
( two in the museum a standard, which is painted and a deluxe which is nickel plated.)
The Dan Gurney Hardtail double loop Eagle.
The frame with the double downtube and the bash gaurd is a production frame
