SloDave you should take offence to the authors use of the word "kike" and "hebe" in the article. It was obviously intended to be offensive and an attempt to to embarrass him. My use was not.
I do not believe Dan Snyder "the shifty eyed hebe" uses the word "Redskins" nor do I or any "Redskins" fan use it in order to be offensive or to be racist. In fact I think most people today regardless of it's origin use the word "redskins" or "skins" with affection. Unless of course you are an Eagles or Cowboys fan.
Just because a word was originally intended to be offensive doesn't mean it remains that way and vice versa. You see the "N" word you refer to which is Nigger. Was not intended to be offensive but to describe where a group of people came from, and was mis-pronounced. Nigger probably was referring to Niger a country in Africa. It eventually was used to describe an entire race regardless of which country they came from. It eventually was intended to be offensive, and can still be used in that context. However, more often than not THESE DAYS it's used as a term of endearment. Usually among the very group it was originally intended to offend. I happen to live and work and grew up in an area that I deal and interact with the "black", "African American" community regularly. They call each other "nigger" all the time. "Yo nigger how you doin?" "That nigger gets all the chicks". Oh and guess what? White kids call each other nigger too. and it's not intended to be derogatory.
Also some words whose original intent were not to be offensive have become offensive. Like the word "GAY", need I explain?
You know who you and people like you remind me of? Al Sharpton. He says we must end racism but he keeps it alive. He earns a living off of racism and fuels the fire. He creates racist issues where they don't exist only to condemn them.
How is this? I'm Italian. I would like the "SKINS" even if they were called the "WOPS" or the "DAGOS" or "GUINEAS" or what ever other derogatory term you wish to use to describe my race. I'm a white boy how about "CRACKER"? It doesn't bother me in the least. When you use a word like Wop, dago or nigger to offend it shows your ignorance.
That being said we should change the name of the "REDSKINS" to the Guineas, or dagos and put a picture of Al Capone or Don Corleone or a Salami on the helmet for all I care. I would still love them. Go Guineas go, run Cracker run. Damn those Dagos lost again.
Don't we have real issues that should be addressed in this country that should be addressed? We are going to expend time money and energy on the name of a football team? Really?
