Now I know I've owned one, and that mine's for sale, but I can't really suggest a later model 944 for anybody who's concerned with reliability...

The early cars are harder to find in good shape, BUT almost ALL parts are cheaper!!! They're easier to get, usually easier to work on. The early cars are also lighter.

I'm planning to buy a 968 next year, but even then, my "beater" Porsche is probably going to be another early 944, if I don't get caught in a replica 550 spyder, or something quite similar.

I like the early dash pretty good as well, which a lot of people don't, that's totally fine by me, it's preferance, but as far as maintenanace costs go, early cars are no worse, and usually much better than later ones...
