I'd say whatever that thing is.....it's definitely cooked.
My cure for my auto heat was to leave the rod off and manually raise the red lever. If I want the fan to run I turn the knob to any position ( servo motor goes full open) and the blower comes on.
I'm sure someone here can tell you what that part is.
