The Tip trans is actually very reliable and a nice match to the car. It is nothing like your fathers slushomatic in the Caddy and if it fails there are plentiful used ones available from dismantlers for a fair price. My car is a 5 spd and I would choose it again in a 986 but I have driven several Tip 986 cars and it surprised me how good they were. Drive one and see what you think.
