Actually, this is true for '65-68 911s and 912...the numbers will match. Starting in 1969 (including this car), they will NOT match and the kneepad number is just the production number.
Run far away from sellers like this. That deposit you lost (I would try to recover it through Paypal) is a small price to pay.
