When adding a new device you may want all other devices to be connected to WIFI and awake.
Routers hand out addresses dynamically. If a device / laptop is sleeping and wakes it will try to use it's last known address which the router may have also assigned the new device causing a conflict.
Rare situation but it can happen.
Do you know how to access your routers set up page? It should have a section listing all connected devices.
