Hi turboflyer.
You are correct. The clip slides on the axel grove.
The grove on the CV joint, just indicate the right direction to slide it on the shaft.
Both sides of the CV looks identical (except for the grove). I noticed that once the grove is facing towards the center of the shaft, it will slide easyer.
