YES! Totally agree with Rick and Recycled Sixty on this. Not to sound a little paranoid but I am always scanning what's ahead and behind at all times, especially when walking towards a group of people, and I keep my distance!
A number of years ago my younger sister was headed out the door for her evening run plugged into her iPod. I stopped her and told her to "unplug"...always be aware of your surroundings especially if you're alone, I preached her as any older brother would. Sure enough, a few months later, some young lady gets assaulted in the very same area where my sister (used to) run.
