If you are flying at 20-40,000 ft the aircraft cabin is pressurized to 8000 ft, think of the difference in pressure. Anyone remember the United flight on it's way to Sydney, the LOT flight over Paris, the JAL plane flying into Haneda? Depressurizations are really bad things.
