When they did the song (Let it ride,) I played the intro on all my guitars and the Gretsch was the winner. It sounded close to the recording. So I think he might have been playing it while recording that song. The Gretsch's have that nice bright twangy sound that I like. I was sold on Gretsch. It is not for everyone. George Harrison used them The rhythm guitarist from AC DC uses one on all those driving rhythms Chris Issac , Chet Atkins Brian Setzer , Stephen Stills Peter Townsend used one on Won't get fooled again.
