Lowes sells a nitro based grain filler you can spray of brush on I used it for both my Tbird respray and the PJ bass.
Lacquer Sanding Sealer | Deft Inc | Trade Spray a bunch of coats, wetsand with 400 until you see no dots and then hit it with your primer.
