Absolutely.
They showed a glimmer of hope with the "Street Rod", a V-Rod with foot pegs in the normal position and the front end rake pulled in from that ridiculous 40 degrees to about 26-28 degrees. I remember one of the bike mags exclaiming "finally - a Harley for the rest of us". Lots of buzz over the the thing for a short while, then it just went away.
HD just didn't support it. What could have been a decent sport-tourer had no saddlebags available, and only the most cursory of windshields. I remember one sitting at Eastside HD for months. I was going to go in and give them an embarrassingly low-ball offer, but then I wondered what I would do with a 200 pound overweight "sport" bike.
