I haven't driven the FRS/BRZ, so my perspective isn't the best. But I've read a lot of feedback about the lack of low end torque leading to a car that feels slow around town. My RX8 was very similar, you had to really beat on it to go anywhere quickly. That's fun at times, but not all the time. The Miata isn't by any means fast, but it has decent low end torque that keeps it from feeling slow.
