I provide links in order to avoid questions in the forum and PM's which say things like: ...............where did you get that picture, .....tell me more about that item,.........where can I buy one of those,.........and so forth.
I also believe providing a link is an informal way of acknowledging the original source of the the photo, a simple way of giving some credit.
A link (and title at times) is also a simple way for people who want to know more to find out more without the time consuming rigors of doing an image search themselves. Often the link is associated with an article, so finding out more and getting more images at various angles may be your reward for following such a link.
I'm not the only one doing this, which is how I picked it up I think.
Now there is software which automatically provides a "Read More At...." for many articles when inserting a quote. Maybe they will put turn signals on cars next which no long rely on the good habits of the operator, we will see.
