I really doubt that the thing is lugging as I am quite familiar with that. It happens mostly in first gear when the revs and speed are low and I begin a moderately to hard acceleration. Once my revs (and speed) increase, it goes away. This could happen in any gear I imagine, though I have only tested it in first and second. It's all about the load vs. rate of acceleration relationship.
I really want to isolate the specific remedy so as to more accurately diagnose the actual cause.... Today, I added some STP Octane booster (treats up to a 21 gallon tank) to my 2/3rd full tank of 91 Octane. There were more hardcore boosters I could have tried ("not street legal"), but I went with the STP.
I will take an easy drive tomorrow until it warms and mixes a bit before I try to duplicate the problem. If it goes away or diminishes (definitively, not imagined), I know I am on the right path (too much advance or too rich). If not, I will add a richer mixture to the mix.... (does a 180 degree clockwise turn of the 3mm adjust screw sound about right for a significant test?) and do another test drive.
If both of the above tests fail to eliminate or diminish the issue, I will drop the advance down a couple of degrees (from the current 29 degrees) and re-test again.
If all of the above fail, I am back to looking for loose mechanical connections and/or an internal muffler issue. I have the Carrera chain tensioners, and there was no problems with them before the re-build, although I suppose they could have been installed loosely or incorrectly, but I sure hope not.... If they were, well what would that say about the rest of the build?
Anyway, I believe it's always best to start with the simple fixes first, and work your way up from there.
I truly appreciate the thoughtful responses from everyone on this forum as it's been extremely hard to find interested, honest and/or knowledgeable answers.
Cheers to all....
