This happens all the time in the 356 world. High end restorers know just where to draw the line and what to save from the original chassis versus the "donor" chassis. It's a difficult question from an ethical standpoint. Spyder #1 was restored using only enough original parts to fit into a suitcase, but it's considered to be nearly priceless. That said, if it's just a 911E, I wouldn't pay a high restored retail price for it with the knowledge that it's a large part 912. If it bothers you now it will bother you in 10 years. - Matt
