As a former athlete (imagine many of us are) there is a point where you weigh the desire to perform against the impact on your body for your remaining years on the planet. You have to live with the damage and wear on your body for the rest of your life... that can quickly outweigh any financial or selfish desires.
It wouldn't surprise me to watch him fight again at the highest level. I walked away from sport for 4yrs in my prime before returning for another shot. There's something surreal about suiting back up and going full speed. He may also have something to prove to himself one more time... first to focus on health.
