Regarding cost models, the internet is not free and how much is your time or avoiding one 993 related service mistake worth to you?
For 993 content, rennlist has won the race. You can swim against the tide or go with the flow and I seem to recall rennlist is free for reading 993 forum, just posting for sale (and photos?) requires membership.
As far as suspensions and keeping it stock, it is a mixed bag. A lot has changed / improved since 1996 regarding suspensions, I guess it is a question of comfort / handling over originality.
