1982 911SC Fuel Tank coating

HiHi All.

I took the belly pan off my SC when upgrading the tie rods and noticed a smell of petrol. The belly pan has damp patch under the fuel pump and the rubber fuel hose collars were rusting badly so I decided to replace the lot. (After viewing a few threads here, I decided to just replace the collared / crimped end fuel hoses from the fuel pump to the bulk head, rather than both lines right back to the engine and that has worked fine).

However, there were a few rusty scratches on the underside of the fuel tank, so I decided to remove the tank to clean and repair it.

After scraping the crud and grime off, I can see tge original factory coating on the tank, which is a thick grey rubber-like paint.

There were a few rusty dents in the tank, so I ended up scraping and sanding the whole underside back to bare shiney metal.

My question is, has anyone done this before and what is the best product to paint it with?

I was thinking of a couple of coats of anti-rust primer that is specifically made for car bodies, with a few coats of body underseal? Or are there products that will recreate the original grey "rubber" coating?

This site has been invaluable whilst restoring my old Porker and this is my first post - so thanks in advance for any help you can give.
