Those who don't understand what art is use the words art and artist loosely.

The above applies to genius also.

What...collage...did you attend? Did you have to cut and paste your collage degree?

If you really know your subject, it has been proven over and over again you need not school, but just go do it.
Wright bros
bill gates
Einstein
and million more.
School is for those of status quo, or just no natural ability.

WOW! Why such disdain for formal education? Collage obviously wasn't for you; perhaps you should try college?

I agree. However, along with the words art and genius, the word creative is also very loosely used. The guy's not an artist, he's a craftsman. A craftsman can be an artist and vice versa - or not. He's not an artist because he's not "creating", he's "constructing", "manufacturing", "making" something. There's really nothing creative about his work...incredibly skilled, yes, absolutely.
Given that he dropped out of school and has immersed himself in this one, intense project for the last five years makes me question his life priorities. And I can't help but wonder if he has a social life.
Bottom line, if this guy was a significant person in my life, I'd be concerned for his mental health and welfare. I'm thinking that Savant Syndrome might apply.
