Need some help.....

My 2012 BMW X5 diesel has thrown four CELs (check engine lights) in as many months. After three separate fixes, the dealer now says it has contaminated fuel and they want $12,800 to fix it. I've owned BMWs since 1998 and, suffice it to say, this one will be the last. It's been in the shop eight times since I bought it- a little over a year now. The car is now a nightmare.

I'm pulling a sample of the fuel and will have it tested...

But the car runs great and I can't believe contaminated fuel is the issue- just how common is this? Other than turning the issue over to my insurance company how do you think I should proceed? The internet turns up very little.

ANY advice is greatly appreciated.
